AAA Screening is a simple ultrasound test which the NHS offers free of charge to all men aged 65 or over.

An abdominal aortic aneurysm can occur if the wall of your aorta – the main blood vessel that supplies blood to your body – gets weak and starts to expand.  The condition can be serious.  Screening can help to find an aneurysm early so that it can be monitored or treated.

Men are six time more likely to have this type of aneurysm than women. The chance of having an aneurysm increases with age.  Your chance of having an abdominal aortic aneurysm can increase if:

  • You smoke (currently/or ever)
  • You have high blood pressure
  • Your brother, sister or parent has had an abdominal aortic aneurysm

If you are eligible now you will get an invitation to come in to the clinic in July.
